BBC SHARKS V EL CID SABRES

17th February - the last game of the season! This years League champions and undefeated El Cid Sabres travelled to BBC to take on the second in League Sharks. We knew they were going to be out to beat us and sadly (!) they succeeded. The Sharks taking the day by 6 points to 4. As always though the story could have been so different! The rink of Ian Brown, Dave Hall and Alan Phillips 15-9 down after 10 ends bur fighting back to be level 18-18 after 15 ends. They then dropped single shots in the 16th and 17th to go 20-18 down but picked up a superb 4 in the last ends to secure a 22-20 win. The rink of Bernard Power, Trefor Evans and the squad Captain Stewart Beattie ahead from the first end and winning 23-8. On the remaining rinks one saw multiple lying shots blasted off the rink (guess who by!?) to lose 18-10 and the other saying they played a good game but were just beaten on the day 20-9. The combination of all these results seeing the Sharks take the points for overall shots by a very frustrating 2 shots! So its all over for another year bar of course the North v South Champions play off. More information on that once the date finalised. Come on El Cid!

EL CID SABRES
NORTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

10th February - El Cid Sabres v Bonalba Colts. Today the Sabres welcomed the Bonalba Colts to El Cid. The Sabres needing just one point to make it mathematically impossible for any other team to catch them. Target achieved in style with the Sabres taking the result 10-0 including the overall shots points by 89-49. Result of the day to Paul Trunchion, Hazel Brown and Yvonne Briden with an 25-11 win. This after a slow start where they went 6-0 down after 3 ends! Next best were Jean McLaughlin , Velia Wood and Chris Salter winning 23-12. Ian Brown, Pat Wardrop and Dave Hall win 20-11. Finally fight of the day goes to Bernard Power, Trefor Evans and Stewart Beattie. 9-9 after 11 ends. Then 13-9 up after 12 ends but going 15-14 down after 16 ends. A little help from the opposition skip in the 17th saw the Sabres team pick up a 2 and they sealed the win with a 4 in the 18th.

The BBC Sharks our nearest rivals in the league only won 8-2 today and although we play them in our final match away next week they are unable to score sufficient points to catch us!

CONGRATULATIONS EL CID SABRES - NORTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE SEASON. ROLL ON NEXT YEAR!
