EL CID LANCERS V SAN LUIS
12th March - A home game today against the second in the league San Luis. The Lancers taking an impressive 7-3 win including the points for overall shots 79-58. That said it came down to the last end of the El Cid rink Jean McLaughlin, Richard Warrilow, Trefor Evans and Chris Salter to secure the extra point for a draw in their match. Just 1 shot in their game after 8 ends but then going 17-13 down after 16 ends. However a single shot in the 17th and then a superb 3 in the last end saw them get the draw. The result on the rink of Velia Wood, Jan Phillips, Greg Sperring and Alan Phillips never in doubt. Going ahead in the 3rd end and pulling away to win 28-11. Yvonne Briden having a superb game and carrying her team of Paul Trunchion, Hazel Brown and Jimmy Paveling to a 24-13 win. So this result currently sees the Lancers 4th in the league just 5 points behind the 3rd place team but with the teams in 5th and 6th just 1 and 2 points behind. All to play for in the last 2 games.with matches against El Rancho and San Miguel. Come on El Cid.
EL CID LANCERS V EMERALD ISLE
26th February - After a weeks break it was back to Winter League duties yesterday with the Lancers welcoming Emerald Isle to El Cid. No one sided matches this time with all results possible throughout the match. However in the end it was a 6-4 win for the Lancers with the points for overall shots taken by just 5 shots (71-66). Fightback of the day goes to Velia Wood, Jan Phillips, Greg Sperring and Alan Phillips. 11-5 down after 7 ends but wining the last 8 ends to take the game 20-12. Scary finish to the match for Jean McLaughlin, Richard Warrilow, Trefor Evans and Chris Salter. They went flying off to a 9 shot lead after 9 ends but then lost the next 6 ends to go 3 shots behind! No panic though as they won the last 3 ends including a 6 in the 18th to win 23-16. So close on the rink of Selma Blight, Christina Harris, Dave Hall and Stewart Beattie ahead until the 15th then tied after 17 but dropping 3 in the 18th to lose 21-18. The remaining rink holding close shots almost every end only to see them frustratingly beaten by some impressive play from their opponents. Final result a 17-10 loss. Overall an enjoyable match though, played in great spirit but such a shame that the opposition choose not to stay for post match meals. The Lancers almost all staying on to enjoy excellent soup, sandwich/sausage rolls and chips and even better to be joined by potential new sponsors Class Act. More on that to follow soon!
Just 3 matches to go now and next week its the away trip to El Rancho. Come on El Cid!
