San Luis v El Cid Lancers
DRAMA THEN DISAPPOINTMENT
4th December - First the drama! Off we go on the coach this morning with a slight knocking sound coming from the rear wheel area. By halfway this got a lot worse and then items (wheel nuts)were seen flying off the coach down the motorway. The driver decided to try to get to the next services a few kilometres away. Following a few nasty wheel wobbles we pulled into the services. No time to park as finally the wheels collapsed and the coach ground to a halt! Some 90 minutes later the coach used to take BBC to Vistabella returned to take us on to San Luis. A few well known songs had their words altered by some team members. "The Wheels on the bus (dont) go round and round" and "Three wheels on OUR wagon!!"
So now to the bowls! The match getting underway at just after midday. No trial ends and one shot only in the first 2 ends. Not a great start for the Lancers with all 4 matches 2-0 down after 2 ends! After that just about any result was so possible With just a few ends to go even a 10-0 to the Lancers was still a realistic option. Well done to Tony Spike , Dave Hall, Velia Wood and Chris Salter. The first to register points for the Lancers with a 16-13 win. Ahead all the way to the 17th but the opposition tied the scores 13-13. A nerve jangling last end saw the Lancers get the 3 shots to win.On the rink of Betty Pierrot, Jan Phillips, Trefor Evans and Alan Phillips they were 16-13 up after 16 ends but sadly dropped 3 in the last 2 ends to tie their game. On Yvonnes rink a very tight match after a slow start. Just 16-15 down after 16 ends but again dropping 3 in the last 2 ends to lose 19-15. The final rink always up against it and although fighting back from 11 shots behind still lost 21-15. So San Luis take the day 7-3 including the points for overall shots 69-62.
A big thankyou to San Luis for patiently awaiting our arrival and for providing one of the best post match lunches we have had for some time. Hopefully a less dramatic day for the Lancers next week when we welcome San Miguel to El Cid!
